It’s my first week back after a medical leave of two weeks. To say that I am overwhelmed would be an understatement.
On Tuesday, my first day back, I was launched face first into a project of which I knew nothing about. On Wednesday Mr. Schoenborn came back and kindly explained to me what was going on and what he expected of me after being gone for two weeks. Now I’m in a group of five as a wildcard position, meaning I am to do whatever the heck the rest of the group wants me to do instead of one single job. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds fun. In fact it’s a lot less stress on my shoulders to be a wildcard than to have a set in stone job that I’ll have to finish on my own. Now I just need to catch up to the rest of the group on the reading of Siddhartha and I hopefully will be good with that part of my makeup work.
Next on my to-do list is to reflect on my progress and growth as a writer and a reader this past trimester. This is for the exam. The exam is just like the first trimester exam in that we just write a personal reflection about how well we think we’ve done and how we’ve challenged ourselves so that we could grow. I don’t think I challenged myself quite as much as I challenged myself first trimester. In the first trimester, I went out of my comfort zone to really speak in front of the class for a presentation with Sophie Grossnickle. Of course, the presentation wasn’t optional, but I could have done so much worse on it. I pushed past my anxiety and presented with confidence about our topic. Although I didn’t challenge myself as much, I still believe I grew. I grew as a writer in my ability to write to a set prompt and respond with relevant details and a strong thesis statement. Although I learned about thesis statements in Mrs. Gilbert’s freshman honors English class, I still am working on polishing my ability to write them.
Finally, I have to work on my pecha kucha. I am not done with the second book I chose to read. It is my own fault because I could have read while I was in the hospital, though they did keep me rather busy. Still there were short periods of time where I could have pulled out my book. Once I finish it, I need to put together my project and eventually present it, though to Schoenborn alone or the entire class, I do not know.
